My daughter complained and complained about the 20-year-old single size (former bunk bed) that she had been sleeping on since her father and I divorced. These complaints had only started as she reached puberty and attained an adult sized body. I knew I was way overdue to get her a decent bed set but couldn’t afford anything.

I found Mattress-in-a-Box. I read the reviews and decided to purchase it. I did it through Wal-Mart Site to Store purchase and never was anything so easy! Once the notification that the mattress was here – I drove my little Ford Escort hatchback to the store to pick up the item.

I was a bit nervous wondering if I would have a package so large that it would not fit in my car or that I (alone) could not lift and carry it. To my surprise, the box was fairly small and could have fit in the back seat of my car – never mind the hatchback. The weight is 52 pounds however, so caution is needed when lifting and moving it.

I chose to tip it end over end when I got it home. I slid it across the floor and up the stairs. Once in my daughters room, I opened the box. Inside were instructions and a much-vacuumed packed mattress.

How could this thing ever take the place of a proper bedspring and mattress set? Following the instructions – I slit the sealed packaging and removed it. Immediately the bed began to expand. It was amazing to watch it.

Within just an hour or so – the bed was fully expanded and both my daughter and I tried it. It felt firm and yet comfortable. The instructions recommended that we not sleep on it for 24 hours to allow it to complete the expansion – but my daughter was too excited and would not wait.

The next morning – she reported the best night sleep she had in quite some time. I also slept on the mattress and found it to be completely comfortable and yet firm. The quality of the stitching and coverings were of very good quality.

I believe I got a good deal for my dollar! The advantage of purchasing this bed, besides it quality and comfort is that it worked very well on my daughter’s bunk bed – the bed having a spring frame to hold up a bunk bed mattress. The other advantage is that a single mom like me – was able to conduct the entire transaction, costs, and move – by myself – with no great effort! The downside is that if you are looking to purchase a replacement for your normal bed – you may need to keep your box springs – to support the mattress on your bed frame. The mattress itself is good enough to sleep on alone without the box, however!
