We purchased an eastern king (not Cal-King) mattress. The mattress is approximately 15 inches deep with a foam topper. It is a very comfortable mattress to sleep on. The mattress is firm but the foam topper makes for just the right amount of softness so you don’t feel like you are sleeping on a board.

The combination of box spring and mattress is very tall and, as a short person, I need a small step stool to get up onto the bed. The warranty on the mattress is excellent if needed, but we have had no issues at all with the bed in the two years we have had it.
