The sleep number air mattress is a wonderful option for couples who like different sleep conditions. My husband and I struggled on our original mattress because we tried to compromise on firmness. Our old mattress ended up not being right for either of us: too firm for me, and too soft for him. The air pressure within the our Sleep Number mattress can be controlled individually to find just the right level of firmness for each side of the bed.

We own a queen-size mattress, but if I were purchasing now I would spring for a king-sized bed. The pillow top of the mattress provides a comfy, soft top feel, but the firmness of the mattress supporting you can be dialed to just the right level. We have had our bed for several years now and are still very pleased. The initial set-up is certainly more complicated than a traditional mattress, but the company provided wonderful service. We have never had any problems with the product and the electrical/pumping system is durable and consistent.

The size of the mattress is king size just as advertised. This is great because you can adjust the firmness and softness on your side as you please. It has a number scale where 0 is the softest and 100 is the firmest. I like around a 40 while my husband likes an 80. This way we can both sleep comfortably and because we sleep on air, there are no springs that hurt your back. Your body sinks into the mattress and your back lies in its comfortable natural position. As far as the company, they back up their work with outstanding reputation. One time we needed an air pump replaced (one of our kids broke it so it was not their fault) and they came out and replaced it. While replacing it they took apart out bed and found some mold. Not only did they clean it out, put the bed back together, and replaced the air pump, but they did it no questions asked with no additional charge. Other than that we have never had a problem with the mattress and if we do they come out and evaluate it for free!

I have a queen size Select Comfort Sleep Number 5000 Pillowtop, and I am very satisfied with our purchase. It is great because my partner and I prefer very different sleeping conditions, and the sleep numbers allow us to adjust our sides individually. He is able to have it very firm on his side, while mine is very soft. Another bonus of this mattress is the pillowtop.

A pillowtop on any mattress makes it extremely comfortable. I do have to say, this mattress is not for everyone. I’ve had family members try it out and they are not satisfied with it – so make sure you test this mattress out before you buy it.

It is also a bit on the expensive side. We paid over $2,000 for this mattress, which is definitely worth it for the quality of the good nights sleep we are getting. However, there are other mattresses out there for much less. Had we shopped around more, we likely could have found another mattress for a better price, but we really can’t complain with the one we have. We do know that the next time we are looking for a new mattress, we will shop better for more value for our money.

The King Size Sleep Number Bed mattress is the perfect size for two adults. The softness or firmness is determined for each person with the use of a remote device that inflates or deflates the air chambers on that side of the bed. This mattress set was purchased in an attempt to solve the age-old problem of satisfying the mattress needs of two different people with one mattress.

Inflated air chambers are adjustable and each person controls his or her half of the bed. The concept is great. At first it seemed like the perfect solution. The pillow top does add additional comfort and separates the body from the potentially lumpy padding inside the cover. We purchased one remote to control both sides of the bed, and that is plenty. The extra expense of separate remotes is not necessary.

We have, however, decided that we will not purchase another Sleep Number Bed. After the first year, we had to replace the air pump, which meant another $100 investment in the mattress system, and now – 4 years later, the second pump is about to go. The mattress cover has held up, but the padding inside seems to be breaking down. The air chambers do not hold air for more than a day or so, and one seems to have a slow leak.

We purchased our Select Comfort Bed several years ago when the technology was fairly new on the market. We chose a queen sized bed to replace our old queen sized regular mattress. My husband has a history of back pain and problems, and we felt that the individual controls for firmness would be invaluable to his health. That has proved to be the case as he does not sleep well anywhere but at home.

This is the type of mattress you adjust the firmness to your liking, so we can have it as soft or firm as we are comfortable with. We both keep the air fairly full so it is very supportive. When family members have used our bed, they say it is very firm – too firm for them. That is a problem that is easily remedied, just release some of the air as to their liking and then we refill it, when we come back.

It is very simple and easy to operate and in 10 years, we have never had a problem with the mattress or the unit that supplies the air. It really is a very flexible mattress and has lasted us very well. We do find that over several weeks, some more air needs to be added from time to time to keep the firmness. We do not have actual numbers on our controls, since that feature was added later, but when we feel it is getting a bit soft, we just push a button and more air is added bringing the firmness back to what we want.

On a business trip to Los Angeles, I stayed in a hotel that incorporated Sleep Number beds in all of their rooms. I wondered if I would like it, thinking maybe it was all show and no substance. However, I was incredibly impressed by the time the next morning rolled around! I slept so soundly, that I made it a point to look into buying one for myself very shortly after returning home. When it arrived at my home, I was delighted at the loft of the mattress-topper layer. It being brand new, (unlike the hotel version) it was much softer and more resilient.

Uniquely, Sleep Number beds have an air-chamber layer built in to the mattress. This can be inflated or deflated by using a convenient hand-held remote device that is attached at the upper left and right corners of the mattress. If you need firmness or support, you simply press the remote to increase your “Sleep Number”, and likewise, you lower it if you require more softness. It is instantaneous and very customizable.

The added bonus of this concept is that your partner’s side of the bed has a separate control for adjusting it to their liking, as well. Amazingly, the two “sides” are practically indistinguishable as you lay on the mattress. You cannot tell where one side ends and the other begins, aside from a change in firmness/softness. The great thing about this bed, is that even though I prefer a soft mattress, I also require firmness for lumbar support. With the softness of the top layer, I can increase my Sleep Number and achieve a wonderfully comfortable combination of both!
